My Journey of Discovery

Why do we want what we don't need?

This post comes from a place and feeling of horror.

I just watched - by accident of the sorts - a video of an elephant who was part of a circus. The video goes on to show the elephant trampling people and escaping into the road. Then the elephant is sadly shot down to his death.

WHY? WHY? WHY????

We forget - or some are not aware- that we are simply guests on this earth. Very lucky to even be walking around, able to see our surroundings, etc.

Yet, we treat earth as if it owes us something. We treat animals as inferior creatures who to some seem to be here to kill, tame, entertain, among many other things.

We kill elephants for their ivory and other animals for sport.

Why do we feel entitled to do this? Do we not realize we are all living things who have "won" an entry to this earth to live, enjoy, reproduce, etc.

This topic quickly changes to greed.

"We are in danger of destroying ourselves by our greed and stupidity. We cannot remain looking inwards at ourselves on a small and increasingly polluted and overcrowded planet." - Stephen Hawking

Humans want, and want and want some more. Some not caring what the reprocussions of their actions could be. We pollute, we kill, we hurt, we over use our resources.

Why is it that civilizations who we call "primitive" have more love and care for the land we live on and thanks to?

We have it ALL backwards!!

We act primitive! With no regard for nature and what we are doing to it. We kill animals for sport and not for food and clothing. We live in societies who's motto is "survival of the fittest" as opposed to communities who take care of each other, who help each other and who thrive together.

We go as far as to get picky when ordering a coffee. "Extra hot" as if coffee is not hot already?

I am not trying to offend anyone who likes their things so, but we are worrying about things we don't need to. We are demanding things that are absurd, but we will not stand up for anything that is truly important for us to even continue as a species on this earth. If we were getting graded as a species...we would be called a disease (which we have) and earth would be better off without us.

We need to change this. Small or big scale, ALL of us are capable of doing amazing things!!

I decided it’s time to change my lifestyle. This meant taking control of my life and making important decisions..
